TECNOVIT – FARM FAES COOPERATES IN AN ACTIVITY FOR THE CONSERVATION OF BIODIVERSITY THROUGH TRANSHUMANCE: PASTORALISM AS A SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICE

The goat farm Cingle Vermell, in collaboration with the animal nutrition company, Tecnovit – FARM FAES, and the organizing institutions Pau Costa, Ramats de focs (Herds of fire) and the Camí Ramader de Marina (Livestock Road of Marina) will carry out the transhumance with a herd of murciano-granadina goats of about 100 animals from the area of the Bullosa Lakes, in the Eastern Pyrenees to the area of Poblet in Tarragona. The transhumance period will be from September 8th to October 15th covering an average distance of 20 kilometers per day.

The objectives of the project are diverse. On the one hand, through grazing it is possible to achieve a more fire-resistant forest mass that allows to prevent fires in strategic forest areas.

On the other hand, transhumance, as an activity strongly rooted in rural areas, favors the production of high quality food, and contributes to shaping the landscape. In addition, it allows to enhance and preserve the tangible and intangible heritage of the area and its old cattle roads. For this, it is necessary to guarantee the productivity of this system so that it is an economically sustainable activity maintaining itself as a way of life with a fair remuneration.

Wild vegetation is not always able to meet the nutritional needs and physiological requirements of grazing animals. For this reason, for transhumance to be a cycle of resource reuse that nourishes the soil without damaging its stability, animals must be supplemented with natural, functional and safe products. This implies the need to incorporate among the collaborating entities an animal nutrition company that is capable of analyzing the herd and providing the necessary supplements for optimal productivity.

Among Tecnovit's nutraceutical solutions we find ideal options for the nutrition of extensive livestock animals and for the transition to sustainable agri-food systems, which allow not only to produce animal protein beneficial to human health, but also contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and the improvement of the environment.
